Can you provide an overview of your company's history and how it has evolved over the years?
Petra Dismorr: NorthPeak Advisory was founded in 2020 to meet the increasing demand from asset managers to assist them with meeting the increasing ESG demands from regulators and allocators alike. With time, our business has evolved to us becoming strategic partners to our clients to help them navigate the ever evolving ESG ecosystem and support them with their various asks be it creating sustainability reports, navigating ESG data or addressing allocator ESG expectations in a mindful and accountable manner.
Can you describe a "day in the life" of your role as a CEO or COO of a managed service provider for the alternative investment sector?
No day is the same, a normal day spans between pitching to potential clients, networking with industry peers, brainstorming with the team to catching up with team members over a coffee.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the ESG industry, and for those looking to sell services to those inside the Investment Space?
In my view, it is best to always start in a more general role to build a solid knowledge base and then determine what topics you are passionate about and move to specialise in that domain. Key to success is passion. Find out what areas truly interest you.
Can you discuss a time when you had to make a difficult decision for the company and how you approached it?
It was a decision around working with a prospect client. As a firm, we had to stick to our ethos and mission and despite being in the early days of our business and turn away a potentially large client.
How has the rise of technology impacted your company's approach to managed services?
It drives us to continuously reassess and determine how technology can improve our service offering.
How do you stay motivated and continue to grow both professionally and personally?
The role and opportunity we play in educating and supporting financial market actors to integrate ESG in a mindful and accountable manner thus creating change drives me both professionally and personally. We all have a duty to support this immense transition.No conversation nor challenge is the same hence a source of continuous intellectual challenge and stimulation.
What do you enjoy most about your job, and what are some of the biggest rewards?
Working with our amazing team and our diverse client base. The biggest reward is seeing “the coin drop” that ESG is simply good business practice and just another tool not a hindrance.
